Yoga Poses can provide  a number of mind and body benefits. Here are some  Yoga Asanas that promote relaxation and may help you breathe easier.


Sukhasana Pose Or Easy Pose-

Easy Pose Or Sukhasana is an easy cross-legged sitting posture, broadens the collarbones and chest. Sukhasana  focuses on breathing control and is, in fact, a great Yoga Posture for the Respiratory organs. It uses the abdominal breathing techinque which is the foundation of all yoga Poses.

 

Nadi Shodhan Pranayama Or Alternate Nostril Breathing Technique-

Even a few minutes of practising this yoga Pose for asthma patients is helpful for them. It involves inhaling from one nostril and exhaling through the other and repeating the process by changing the sides. It is credited with purifying the blood of toxins, regulating oxygen supply.

 

Dandasana  Or Staff Pose-

Dandasana or the staff pose looks very  simple but is effective in alleviating the symptoms of asthma. This pose helps by stretching the chest, strengthening the core and muscles of the back. Breathing in this pose is challenging which thereby helps strengthen the lung muscles.

Upavistha Konasana Or  Seated Wide Angle Pose-

This Yoga Asana requires hinging from the hip with the legs wide open thereby lengthening the upper body while completely stretching the chest and back. Breathing while holding this asana helps in improving lung functioning.

Uttanasana (Forward Bend Pose)-

Uttanasana or Forward Bend stretches the muscles of the hamstring and the abdomen and requires bending from the hip. At this point your body switches from sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system, helping you relax.  

Corpse Pose-

Corpse pose is beneficial for  asthma relief because of the breath and stress management it provides.

Other Yoga Poses which are helpful to treat Asthma

  1.  Ujjayi Pranayam - Ocean 🌊 Breath.
  2.  Ustrasana Or Camel 🐫 Pose.
  3.  Salabhasana Or Locust Pose.
  4. Supta vajrasana - supine thunderbolt Pose.
  5. Shirshasana - Headstand Pose.
