Genral Questions Of Yoga Mats

YogaKargha mats are mostly of three types– thenormal matswherein there is no antiskid coating or additional layer. These mats (they could be made of cotton, jute, hemp, wool, or grass fibers) perform well on any carpeted surface. They can be used on their own and are easy to fold, carry (travel friendly), and care for. They are excellent for any general fitness routine or meditation session. In addition, these mats can be used around in a variety of ways, such as runners, rugs, etc.

For more advanced practice or a stable version, we include an antiskid layer below our mats:

It can either be a natural rubber coating or an anti-skid felt-based layer. The natural rubber coating is derived from rubber plantations in India and gives a yellowish gluey texture to the backside of the mat. The rubber coating makes the mat anti-skid but doesn’t provide additional thickness. Also, the rubber coating fades away with time and frequent washing. It is a natural way for your cotton mat to stay eco-friendly yet anti-slip. The anti-skid felt layer has a multitude of rubber dots embedded over a cotton felt fabric. This makes the mat anti-slip and also provides an additional thickness to the mat.

We recommend handwash for all handwoven articles. But we also know that it may not always be practical. So, a gentle wash in a machine with equally gentle soap can be done. Please avoid tumble drying, and prefer line drying in semi-shade.

Some mats with natural dyes such as Indigo, Turmeric, or Madder Dyes may bleed for the first few washes. Avoid mixing the mats with any other clothing. Light steam iron on your mat makes it look like new.

The best part about natural fabric-based yoga mats is they can be easily washed and cared for, are sweat-absorbent, and are extremely breathable. The rubber mats, PVC mats, and other polymer-based mats can not match the feel, texture, and breathability of the natural fiber mats

Not always. The natural fiber is washed during the process of dyeing, most of the shrinkage already happens there and is taken care of. Cotton has a tendency to shrink as a natural fiber so expect a little shrinkage specially in all natural undyed mats. And do you know, for this very reason, we make our mats longest and widest in the market! So, that you do not have to worry at all.

No. only our natural undyed organic cotton mat is GOTS certified. We provide the certification only for extra-large bulk purchase.

For GOTS certificate, please understand how it works. Not everyone can include or should tag the products as GOTS. GOTS certification does not only stand for the product but it also stands for the processes (even the smallest ones) that occur in making the final product. Our products are co-created by multiple artisans often working together miles apart in various “Haats” and weaving centers. It is impossible in the current set up for us to apply for a GOTS certification. Our starting hand spun yarn is organic cotton, and it undergoes various changes till the final product is made.

It is either recycled to make more mats or used for making utility articles (bags, pouches) that are used in packaging or are donated.

Oh, we love left over fabric as that is used for making doll dresses, scrunchies, and other utility products 😊that we again either sell in local fairs or simply donate.
